Interview with Cameron Lancaster

Hi Cameron, hope you are well. First of all – how’s the injury going? Can you give us an update on the recovery front, I understand you are now back jogging?

Getting there, should be back playing matches late September but yeah back jogging now and have to do some strengthening work and alot of fitness before I can be back 100%

It must have been a bit frustrating picking up the injury as the new manager came in – have you managed to meet Andre yet, if so what are your first impressions?

Was very frustrating in that sense wanting to make good first impressions but that's football sometimes so just have to deal with what's thrown at you! Was quite ironic that when I did the injury I scored quite a good goal but snapped my groin from it. Like the new gaffer he's very approachable and is looking to bring the youth through which for me is perfect.

On a more upbeat note, congratulations on signing a new deal with the club until 2014 over the summer. It would seem from the outside the Academy lads are getting more of a look in the last year or two – just how good is the Academy set up at Spurs?

Thanks I was very happy to sign a contract till then. We have some really good players in our academy with alot of quality so there it good competition for everyone and hopefully yeah some new faces will come through this season.

The new training facilities are impressive aren’t they? Having seen them first hand you get the feeling the club are moving in the right direction off the field.

Yes they are amazing, best place to recover from an injury there's so much variation with what I can do to help me get back quicker and better. With these facilities the only way is up for the club.

Cameron's Spurs debutI want to cast your mind back to January 31st 2012… Your Spurs first team debut, against Wigan at home where we ran out 2-0 winners. What a special day it must have been not only for you, but for your family and friends. Tell us a bit about the day, when was you aware that you made the subs bench?

Definitely the highlight of my career so far and it was quite an up and down day, didn't have the best training session on the day so had a shower and as I was getting dressed I got told I was in the squad! Was nervous but excited at the same time so went to but some new football boots to wear and went to the lane. Will never forget the roar from the crowd as I came on.

It was a lively 12 minute appearance, playing with the likes of Ledley King and Luka Modric must of felt like you was in a dream. How were the more experienced players in welcoming you to the match day squad?

It was, to work at it since the age of 12 and finally get on that pitch with those players was amazing and they were great everyone was welcoming and made me feel at ease.

What happened with your match worn shirt after the game? Has it been kept and framed or the like? I hope you didn’t swap it!

No definitely didn't swap that, it's still in my room hanging up unwashed!

Moving away from that memorable day – it’s obviously something to look back on and now use as a target to reach them heights once more. After getting back into the swings of things – would it be fair to say the Europa League may be your best immediate chance to play in the first team once more? With the likes of Harry Kane out on loan – it opens the door should the manager look to rotate.

Hard to tell from here but I'd love to play every game for spurs so I'll be training hard trying trying to make good impressions and grabbing every chance I get with both hands when they come.

You had a brief loan spell at Dagenham and Redbridge at the back end of the 2010/11 season – obviously it’s all a learning curve and playing under the experienced John Still must have been an experience, how do you feel it went and would you be open to a loan move should the opportunity arise to further your development?

That loan spell was an experience and would have liked to play more games, I'd be open to any opportunities to further my development but my main goal at the moment is getting on the pitch and scoring.

Thanks to Cameron for his time, best wishes for the season ahead, COYS!
